We Are What We Are benefits solely from its mid part, the beginning is very slow and the ending is disgustingly gory, but what a second act that is! Moving in a manner of drama instead of gory action, with dark atmosphere filled with sorrow and despair as well as strong story, well-acted and emotionally compelling, this film is one of a few horror movies that even non-genre fans can enjoy.
