Review of We Are the Best! (2013) by Katja P — 24 Oct 2013
Set in Stockholm in 1982, shortly after the so called 'death of punk rock', three 12-year-old girls set out to carry on its spirit and culture by sporting short hair and mohawks and starting a band.
Moodysson's return is quite tame narratively speaking and lacks a story with any real purpose or urgency, despite the fact that some themes of coming of age and preteen rebellion can be noticed portrayed in an originally edgy way.
However, all in all, We Are the Best is a case of three characters in search of a plot. In fact, it seems as if it is the three little girls that carry the film with their colourful personalities and fascinatingly rebellious stubbornness.
