Review of We Are Still Here (2015) by Richard L — 01 Jul 2015
Not quite the slow burn followed by abject madness of a Ti West horror flick, but close. A couple mourning the recent death of their son move into a new house. The creepy camera angles viewing them around corners doesn't convince them to get back in their car and leave immediately, so of course they stick around for the strange noises, horrible basement, and weird neighbors.
The movie benefits from a few unexpected elements, including confusion about the forces at work and a rather quick progression once those forces are unleashed. The final scenes become almost ridiculously gory and the final scene itself is a keeper.
The acting is slightly uneven, but Barbara Crampton is great as Anne Satchetti, convinced that the spirit of her dead son has somehow followed them to their new home, despite rapidly accruing evidence otherwise.
