Review of We Are Still Here (2015) by Tyler B — 28 Mar 2016
Almost gave it 1 star, but the story and special effects get it that extra boost. This is one of those movies where the concept is really cool, but the acting, dialogue, and plot holes nearly ruin the experience. It's a frustrating thing to watch because we can see the potential behind nearly every scene.
Within the first 2 minutes we start to get dialogue that doesn't make any sense. The wife asks her husband how the movers knew where to hang the pictures. And the husband says he told them... Immediately I am confused as a viewer. I start to think this is a house they have already lived in and so the guy knows where every picture goes off the top of his head. But no, it's not. It's a new house that they have never lived in. Did the husband take notes on where each picture in the house is going to hang and then talk the movers through this process for each picture over the phone? That sounds like it would take hours.
Garbage dialogue like this occurs repeatedly throughout the film and it's so frustrating because it would only take maybe 5 minutes to think of something else to put in the script that would actually make sense.
How this film has a 95% rating is beyond belief. It's very very average at best and a waste of time at worst. If they spent a little more effort on the script and casting we would have something worthwhile.
