Sure, there have been football movies. Sure, in most of them there's some inspirational moment that brings it all together. We've all seen them, and they're all alike. What makes a movie like this is stand out is not just its basis in actual events, but the genuine respect given to what was a terrible tragedy.

This story went beyond what happened on the field; the football games were mostly a backdrop to the human element, and that's what made it good: It downplayed the games in favor of the reality of what the people involved had to do to make Marshall's football program exist again.

Well done.
