By being a somewhat manipulative, paint-by-the-numbers sports film, hitting all the same notes you've ever seen one hit, it's difficult to stand out, but possible. "We Are Marshall" accomplishes this by composing its performances, script, and already in place, real life emotional weight to create one of the most rousing and inspiring underdog stories put on film in the last 20 years.
