Review of We Are Kings (2014) by Hjrsf — 27 Apr 2015
The movie was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. To me one of the morals of the story is not only do the young learn from the old, but old dogs can in fact learn new tricks.
Often there are generational struggles based essentially on lack of empathy. We fail to understand the perspective of someone else. But for me, this story creates union rather than divide. It depicts all the characters including the traditional "bad guys" with compassion.
Another thing, I really like the way the whole thing was shot. It makes we want to travel to the Midwest and south. I don't know the US so well ironically. The open space shots of fields and country side add well to the long road the characters must take.
Needless to say the actors were great. Their musical talent is really, really special. I enjoyed the blend of music a lot ! The rapping was terrific and the rapper who played Sam wonderful.
