Review of Wayne's World 2 (1993) by Jason D — 02 Jan 2010
With the HUGE success of the first Wayne's World movie, it was inevitable that a sequel would shortly follow suit. Unfortunately though, the project was a little too rushed and as a result, an inferior sequel was put out in just a year's time.
Wayne's World 2 brings back the comedic duo of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, returning as Wayne and Garth, who are enjoying the small success of their show and partying hard with friends (including returning Tia Carrere as Wayne's rocker girlfriend).
Things get shaky when Carrere's band starts working with a big-time producer (played by the immortal Christopher Walken) who slowly starts putting the moves on her, while fending off Wayne, who starts to lose it all, until him and Garth conspire to pull off the biggest musical festival in the world.
The base of this Mike Myers-written story is great, but it definitely goes off in unusual tangents that are sporadically hit or miss humor-wise. While the movie definitely feels rushed, there are still lots of laughs to be had with this one, especially with another who's who of guest cameos and appearances in the film, including the likes of the band Aerosmith, Heather Locklear, Kim Basinger (in a funny role), Chris Farley (in a bigger role), and others.
There's also a great spoof of the Graduate to look forward to. Overall, a good comedy, but it pales in comparison to the original movie. Had they taken their time, we could have watched some more Wayne's World sequels rather than Shrek sequels.
Still, not bad.
