Review of Wayne's World 2 (1993) by Rebecca H — 06 Jul 2011
Mike Myers gives a better performance in this second Wayne's World and the film's funnier too, even if it is just a bunch of random sketches shoved together in any old order to make a 'film'.
But laughs can't carry a film alone. And there's nothing else here. Like the first film, the advert parodies are so dated, they're impossible to get and two men in their thirties still fail to remotely pass for teenagers. The plot is weak; Wayne wants to put on a concert, and that would be an interesting story why? There are several blatant and lazy copies of 'plot developments' from the first film, which now lack freshness and make little sense. There's a massive Graduate parody for no reason. Why should we care that Wayne wants Cassandra back? He dumped her. The ending is lamest of all, very much feeling like 'oops, we ran out of steam, just roll the credits'. The alternate endings gag was funny the first time, but here it is just a carbon copy without the logic or humour.
Oh well. Even more pointless than the first film (who knew that was possible?) but heartier laughs when they come.
Funny sketches, shame about the structure.
