In a post credits scene in Wayne's World, the character Garth Algar said he hoped that viewers didn't think the movie sucked. Unfortunately, unlike many other critics and viewers worldwide, I did.

Wayne's World captures the rock n roll spirit of the early 1990's, but it doesn't capture enough humour to last until the end of the film.

While the direction of Penelope Spheeris is stylish and great in capturing the rocking tone of the film, and the cast features an energetic Mike Myers in his youth nad Dana Carvey at his best, I simply found that I could not enjoy Wayne's World.

I really wanted to like Wayne's World, but I simply couldn't.

The reason why is simply that I did not find Wayne's World funny. The jokes in the film are consistent but too stupid, and they have elements of a spoof film without directly crossing the border into that territory. But it all feels unbalanced and that is the problem, because Wayne's World wants to be both a comedy film and a legitimate criticism of the corporate world, but the film fails to find the appropriate balance to make it work.

The jokes are hit and miss, and I found that more often they proved to simply miss. They felt too ridiculous or cliche, and the story felt really predictable all throughout. And since I knew what was coming I couldn't laugh at the story, and since I didn't laugh at the jokes either, its safe to say that I found Wayne's World to be a seriously unimpressive comedy.

Perhaps its just that the film is dated, but it's a lazily made film in certain areas despite its ambition, and it falls short of just what it could have been. At least it gave a career to Mike Myers and had a good soundtrack though.

So you're probably more likely to enjoy Wayne's World than I am, but don't be surprised if you don't because I didn't even though I wanted to. Just remember that it's a stupid comedy with a good cast, but may be too stupid for your liking.
