Review of Waveriders (2008) by Mike M — 19 Sep 2009
Deserves consideration for making obvious something most viewers (perhaps even surf aficionados) probably won't have thought of before: that the laid-back late 60s California vibe - what the interviewees here call "soul surfing" - would of course have swept across the Atlantic and hit Ireland before the stuffy English mainland caught wind of it.
(A sequel might consider how and why surfing caught on in Cornwall.) The countryside and coastal photography is stunning, and any film that sets a montage of especially gnarly riding to "Teenage Kicks" is all right in my book.
