Review of Waterworld (1995) by Troy F — 17 Aug 2010
Waterworld is nowhere near as bad as people have said it was. Now the theatrical cut was flawed and contained a lot of plot holes, but for what it was, the movie was still pretty original and had a pretty interesting concept.
The extended TV cut, despite being unfortunately edited for violence and profanity, adds 40 min of important scenes onto the theatrical cut and ultimately makes for a "better" movie. Kevin Costner and Chaim Girafi who played the girl were good, while Jean Tripplehorn was decent too.
Dennis Hopper as the Deacon was sort of corny at times, but he was a fun, crazy villain that was neat and fun to see on screen. Overall, a decent entertaining post apocalyptic movie that I enjoyed watching, even if it wasn't perfect, a little strange and corny, and progressed a little slow at times.
