Review of Waterworld (1995) by Van R — 20 Sep 2011
Imagine what MAD MAX would be like on the water and you have WATERWORLD. All we know is that the polar ice caps have melted and the world is supposedly covered with water. The villains are the Smokers, led by Dennis Hopper, and they are pursuing the Mariner (Kevin Costner) in his three hulled boat because he has a little girl (Tina Majorino) with a tattoo on her back that supposedly is the map to the fabled dryland.
The Costner villain resembles the lone wolf western hero except that he is a mutant with gills behind his ears and webbed toes so he can swim underwater for long lengths of time. He uses himself as bait for a giant fish.
Once he is Jonah inside the fish, he fires an explosive device that blows two great holes in the beastie and brings it to the surface with the fish dead and the Mariner alive.
