Review of Waterworld (1995) by Pascal V — 30 Dec 2012
My prediction: in 50 years time, this movie will be considered a classic. I think Waterworld was doomed before its release because of bad press caused by the huge budget overrun and setbacks during production. Looking at it as objectively as I can, I see a very good-looking movie, beautiful cinematography, good action scenes, a story that's a bit too simple / uninteresting at times, some unforgettable characters (especially on the side of the 'smokers'), Dennis Hopper in great psychotic shape, a solid cast.
Waterworld always feels to me like an aquatic version of Mad Max, which is really a compliment.
