Review of Watership Down (1978) by Natalie S — 12 Jun 2008
Silly rabbit, stories of rebellion and the triumph of the (human) spirit against adversity are NOT for kids, at least the little ones.
This film, which has as much substanative engagement as Animal Farm as a representation of a specific time and place and issue, is about as close to 'masterpiece' as one can get with animation; it's lively and incredibly stylized while seeming, really, as true to 'life' as possible.
Only liability: Art Garfunkel's song for the movie. Horrendous!
