Review of Water for Elephants (2011) by Tanja D — 26 Aug 2012
I really liked the book, but this movie adaptation felt flat and blah. There was no romantic chemistry between Rob/Jacob and Reese/Marlena. They just seemed like two friends who kissed sometimes. I never felt like I was watching a great love story unfold, which is a stark contrast to the book.
Christoph Waltz was pretty good as August, if a little over-the-top. Yet I never felt like he was threatening Marlena or genuinely coming between her and Jacob because the two leads never reacted to him that way.
Honestly, the best thing about this movie was the elephant. Go, Rosie!
