Review of Water for Elephants (2011) by Francisco R — 19 Jan 2013
I like melodrama and I really like movies set in the circus, so I thought there was a chance I'd like this one. No ... not really. Viewed strictly as a circus movie, it's pretty good. It really takes you into that world.
Christoph Waltz does as much as he can with a really one note villain. Robert Pattinson on the other hand appears to actually sap charisma from those around him. I have never seen him in anything before this and I'm not that eager to see him again.
Reese Witherspoon really has no chemistry with him, so the central romantic triangle falls completely flat. It's an attractive looking, empty movie. Ken Foree has a small role as one of Waltz's bodyguards.
