Review of Water (2014) by Stephen S — 16 Sep 2007
A great film from Deepa Mehta about the plight of widows in Colonial India, with the choice of death on their husband's funeral pyre or to remain pure and devout in seclusion from the outside world.
It also looks at the Ghandi led reformist movement toward tradition. The story focuses on a nine year old widow, and a fellow, older widow friend who falls in love with a determined law student. Great cinematography and accompanying music.
