Review of Water (2014) by Jade T — 29 Sep 2007
I watched "Water" through Netflix's Watch Instantly feature. The movie is very moving. It's difficult not to show any sympathy for Chuyia, a 7 year-old who lost her childhood to marriage, separation from family, and widowhood and has to live the rest of her life in a temple.
The cinematography was beautiful, even though it was filmed in Sri Lanka, not India. The acting was superb, especially by Sarala (Chuyia) and Lisa Ray who didn't know much Hindi and had coaches help them on their lines.
Most films don't make me cry, but in several scenes I couldn't help but get teary-eyed. This film is remarkable in many ways and absorbs the audience from the very beginning. Five stars.
