Review of Water (2014) by Tom H — 10 Feb 2008
"Water" is quite possibly my all-time favorite movie. To view this film as a portrayal of the toils and tragedies of women in India during the rise of Gandhi is a a skin-deep interpretation. It certainly does this, but there is a profound underlying issue that transcends borders or religions.
This timeless film illustrates the internal battle of religion and cultural traditions that are deeply engrained in our communities, families, and politics versus our individual morals and aspirations.
It is pertinent in any country or religion. If everyone sees just one movie in their lifetime, I hope this is it.
