Review of Water (2005) by Anya M — 25 Dec 2007
Immaculately produced and visually stunning historical drama about the plight of Indian widows in the 1930s set against the backdrop of social revolution. Atmospheric, absorbing, and educational though it suffers from an unconvincing romance and the lack of a genuine overarching narrative to tie the various story elements together.
Even handed and thematically rich storytelling compensates for this and ultimately makes it worth watching.
