Review of Watchmen (2009) by Trae K — 02 Apr 2014
One of the most complex, imaginative, and visionary movies I've ever seen. This film uses an incredibly dark, AND unique, way of storytelling in the comic book genre, and it's not like any other average/ordinary superhero film ever made.
I mostly loved the use of slow motion in this film, and how it was used in SO many scenes for entertainment value; this movie also has some of the absolute BEST violence/death scenes I've EVER seen on screen (mostly based on what Rorschach does).
Now, my original rating for this film was either a 4-or-4.5/5 because of how a few scenes were changed/altered from the graphic novel, how the movie felt slow at times (especially because of its near 3-hour runtime), and how some of the action sequences/punches felt pretty fake and unrealistic, but it was the Ultimate Cut that made me give this film a full 5/5.
The extended and "Tales Of The Black Freighter" scenes in the Ultimate Cut made up for some of the errors I've had with the original version, and it was a LOT more better and entertaining in my opinion.
My last thoughts overall: this is one of THE most visually-striking movies ever made, and it's my absolute MOST favorite film from director Zack Snyder (as well as being his very BEST to date).
