Review of Watchmen (2001) by Thorne O — 20 Oct 2013
Snyder takes a thoughtful multi-layered novel and turns it into violence porn. Turns two decent people into indifferent killers, and the originally sympathetic antagonist into a smug a$$hole. Blares the Hendrix cover when he should have used the Dylan original.
DOES get it right every time he sticks to the novel, but deviates from or "adds" to the novel FAR too often to fulfill his puerile fascination with violence and gore. This movie proves that Watchmen *could have been* made into an incredible movie, perhaps if almost anyone but Snyder had been given the same amount of money and resources to do it.
