Review of Watchmen (2001) by Timothy B — 22 Apr 2015
I am giving this movie 5 stars because it is the only Comic book movie (graphic novel) done right. It is dark, gritty and not silly. I am not a fan of this current family fun, campy, colorful, safe pretty boy/girl theme that the current comic book movies are going.
As a kid I grew up in the 80s and 90s reading graphic novels and comics and loved them for their dark twisted themes, The X Men movies done by Singer are OK. Don't even get me started with X3. Watchmen is the staple for comic book movies in my opinion.
From the opening scene to Zack Snyders style of film, I really enjoy it. From the moment I found out it was rated R I knew it would be good. The fact that other critics bashed this movie for the same reason, clearly you did not read the graphic novel.
I own three versions of this on DVD & Bluray. It has great sound and is visually stimulating. If you have not seen it be sure to see the extended version on blu-ray.
