Review of Wasting Away (2007) by Sam B — 18 Oct 2011
***aka "Aaah! Zombies!"***.
Here's a new twist on the zombie movie genre: zombies who discover that they're zombies and are just trying to fit in. They're originally perplexed when people run from them, then they can't understand why their skin is beginning to peel off, and none of them can explain their sudden love of (you guessed it) brains, especially "brain margaritas".
What makes this movie different from other zombie films is its dual points-of-view: you see the zombies as they see themselves, and also as humans see them. For the usual low-budget B-movie zombie fare, this flick packs a punch, and even occasionally delivers a genuine side-splitter. It's sometimes bloody, frequently witty, and fun from beginning to end.
One of the good lines (and there are several): "Do you think Mexican brains are spicy?".
