Review of Waste Land (2010) by Edmund C — 17 Oct 2010
Succeeds in its dual purpose: while following the progress of Muniz's project from outline to a print on a bedroom wall, it also insists on letting the subjects of these prints - who might otherwise have been regarded as clay in the artist's hands - speak for themselves.
It's a rare chance to hear Brazilian garbage pickers comparing the relative philosophic merits of Marat and Machiavelli, and an insight into the creation of a modern art that is at once edifying, deeply humane, and borne out of pure rubbish.
