Review of Waste Land (2010) by Jared A — 25 Apr 2011
Incredible movie about an artist, Vik Muniz who travels to a huge landfill near Rio in Brazil. Here he found a group of garbage pickers who separate the recyclable materials for low wages. They are the victim of corruption and low self-worth.
The experience of being the subject of Vik,s artistic creations composed of garbage, helps raise their spirits and provides them with a renewed sense of dignity and respect. One man is empowered to organize these workers to give them more power and rights. Another mother stands up to her husband and demands the respect that is her right. It is a very heartwarming story about the power of the arts to help us rise above our worldly struggles.
