Review of Wasp (2015) by Dan B — 16 Jan 2008
Andrea Arnold's 26 minute 'Wasp' contains more power than many films 3 or 4 times that length. Excellent performances, particularly Nathalie Press and the astonishingly natural children, with Danny Dyer offering solid support.
It's bleak but the potential voyeurism inherent in the grim subject matter is entirely mitigated by the humane approach to the characters. I caught it on Film Four and it's definitely worth looking out for.
Andrea Arnold went on to make the slow burning revenge story 'Red Road'. Can't wait to see what she does next.
