Review of Warm Bodies (2013) by Renzo V — 27 Jan 2014
"A ZOMBIE ROMANCE".
- Another movie in which the walking dead are the biggest stars. 'Warm Bodies' is a 2013 romantic comedy based on the novel by Isaac Marion, starring John Malkovich (Con Air). The plot resembles 'Romeo and Julliet', but then set in a world after a zombie apocalypse; the zombie R (could his name be Romeo? :p) falls in love with the beautiful and very lively Julie. The story kind of reminds me of 'Twilight, not in a good way... Elements of the horror genre are brought in, but the main focus lies on the teenage love story. Perhaps a good solution to kill time on your first date?
When Julie Grigio and a group of young people are send out from their fortified district to find medicine in the destroyed city, they get attacked by a horde of flesh eating zombies. Several of them are bitten, including Julie's boyfriend Perry. But one of the zombies, who remembers that he's name starts with an 'R' and calls himself R, is drawn to Julie. After eating Perry's brain, he sees his memories and feels even more attracted to the young women. R helps her escape from the other zombies by mumbling to follow his lead. He takes her to his home, an abandoned airplane at the nearby airport, where the two of them develop a special bound.
