Review of Warlock (1959) by Spookie M — 20 Oct 2010
Magic Casting Makes the Movie.
This is fairly bog-standard B-Movie action/horror fare with a basic plot and a modest budget which is lifted into a much better film by some inspired casting. Richard E Grant is excellent as the Witchsniffer and Julian Sands creepily convincing and sinister as the VERY EVIL Warlock of the title. The script has a nice balance of action, horror and tongue-in-cheek humour and the cinematic values are quite acceptable too. All in all a watchable and enjoyable movie that certainly would have been far less memorable without the MAGIC of Messrs Sands and Grant.
