This movie, along with Sneakers, defines a generation of nerdom. Where movies like Tron and others are "classic" nerd films, they also are in a big part of the general culture. This movie is more specific. Sure some of the writing pushes past what is possible, but its done in such a way that you want to believe.
The cold war produced the plots of a lot of great movies. This is definitely one of the top.
