Review of Wargames (1962) by Richard H — 05 Mar 2008
Somehow the synopsis manages to find fault with WarGames. There are really only two options: Great movie or greatest movie? Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy give an 80's-tastic performance. True, it sort of peaks in the middle, but who really gives a crap? Can you believe this was the first cinematic reference to a "firewall?" It's true! How can you not be interested? Hacking into NORAD's database and starting a nuclear war--it doesn't get any more cold war than that.
"He does fit the profile perfectly. He's intelligent, but an under-achiever; alienated from his parents; has few friends. Classic case for recruitment by the Soviets!".
