Review of Warcraft (2016) by Sam C — 12 Oct 2016

This is a film that I was very surprised about. I had wanted to see this in theaters, but decided to see another film instead, and while I loved that movie, I regret not having seen this. First of all, the direction from Duncan Jones (son of the late David Bowie) is great, and the visual effects are top of the line, with the construction of the fictional world of Azeroth beautiful and breathtaking.

Then there's the acting. The cast includes Travis Fimmel (Vikings on the History Channel), Toby Kebbel (from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Fantastic Four), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Daniel Wu, and Clancy Brown (Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption, the DC Animated Universe, and Green Lantern).

Travis as the main human protagonist is a role he completely embraces without much difficulty. Toby plays the protagonist from the other race, and he proves himself as a versatile actor, able to redeem himself after his role in Fantastic Four, where he did his best but failed in the end.

Robert, Daniel, and Clancy portray members of the same race, with Robert portraying Toby's friend, and Daniel portraying their mysterious leader, a role he portrays perfectly. Meanwhile, Clancy portrays the military leader.

As a fan of Clancy Brown for years, he was one of the main reasons I wished to see this film, knowing just how well he could portray a villain. All in all, this is an amazing film, and I am glad I have yet another film to add to my top films list for this year.
