Review of Warcraft (2016) by Chadd M — 15 Nov 2016
Thinking mans Lord of the Rings, pearls before swine.
And thats no hyperbole! blind, corrupt or lack sensitivity or refinement.. - this is not only one of the best movies of the genre - it is one of the best movies ever made.
Pity feeble-minded and -hearted critics who - in their habitual need for peer-approval and status quo or out of fear from greatness in an unexpected, uncommon or undesired place - shut themselves off from this enjoyment.
Nope - still no hyperbole! if u have heart, mind and eyes for it, it is that good! feeling a little redeemed cause I always knew that if warcraft is adapted right it will be good, and of course too good for the mainstream.
Despite having seen it coming - still baffling how a few pictoresquely simplified sets and armor pieces (a pillar of warcrafts unique art but probably an inadequacy to the unaware), the association with a video game and superficial similarities to lesser products of the genre apparently is a enough to make the critics fall over and crawl into their usual hiding places:
"visually impressive but.." - constraining praise only to turn an achievement into a pivot for damnation, either in denial or lifeless as a fel-victim, "thinly written characters" - oh do tell about the depth and complexity of gandalf! or pick one of the superheroes of your latest top-rated fascist masterpiece, also "my beethoven doesnt sound like chopin so hes a failure" right? and of course: "cgi, cgi everywhere, so much cgi, me sad", do you also complain in an art museum that there are so many paintings instead of photographs?
It seems the rich lore and unique art of warcraft and this - its excellent showcase - will remain a cultural treasure invisible for the mainstream of trained trough cattle and high brow snobbism alike, just my impressions after viewing it for the first time, just marvelous work!
