Review of Warcraft (2016) by Housedad — 12 Jun 2016
Regarding visual presentation: This film is worth watching solely on the strength of its visual effects. The motion capture for the orcs is amazing, and the magic effects are the best representation I've seen on screen in any film, ever. This is also one of the first films I've seen since Avatar where the 3D conversion actually added something to the presentation, rather than detracting.
Regarding the plot: Do you remember when Inception came out, and many critics reported that it was a confusing movie that required multiple viewings to make sense of it? And then do you remember watching it, and thinking those critics were out to lunch? The same is true of Warcraft. Coming into the film as a non-fan, the film has a pretty straightforward plot, and anything that's left unexplained isn't really necessary for understanding that plot. You'd have to be pretty dim to not be able to figure out what's going on.
