Review of Warcraft (2016) by Thomas J — 17 Oct 2017
The Warcraft movie is not newcomer friendly, I'll give you that. But what it does do fantastically is throwing you straight into what made the warcraft universe one of the most popular and influential in gaming history.
Everything in this movie, from the art style to the dialogue simply emanate everything so many people love about this universe. Is the plot oversimplified? Yes, absolutely. A better format to explore the World of Warcraft would've been a series, but since nobody is gonna fund a video game-based series, I'm quite happy with what I got.
Now, the movie overall does give a lot of questions to those who are unfamiliar with the lore, but it only really takes half a functioning neuron to realize that none of these questions really affect the plot of the movie as a stand-alone piece.
If it were to spawn a series of sequels none of which have bothered to answer the questions raised by the first film, it would've been a problem, but then Duncan Jones would have enough place to explain everything easily.
I personally find myself hoping for a sequel, but all things considered, I'm not expecting one. Still, Warcraft is for me one of the best movies I've ever watched, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
But don't take my word for it, go watch it yourself and form your own opinion. What strangers on the internet think about something shouldn't affect your perspective at all.
