Review of Warcraft (2016) by Custompcmax — 21 Jun 2016
First off, I am slightly surprised by the negative critic reviews on this. While I can admit there are maybe some issues in the first 45 minutes or so of the movie for non-players (maybe a little too much fan service, name dropping...) I don't think it is movie breaking. I am honestly not real sure what they were expecting here. It is a fantasy movie based on a very fantastical video game series. The video game is rich in lore, which is used to great effect here. The use of CGI is done well, even though there is a lot. Again - it is based on a video game, so I don't think it is a foul.
The movie is fun... period. It follows a story arc that precedes World of Warcraft (what many gamers familiar with the series have played) and is done really well. It brings in a lot of locations, characters and elements from the games. Much of it will be recognizable to people who have played World of Warcraft. The characters are well done, especially the Orcs. Without providing too much in the way of spoilers, the story is fairly deep. It isn't as simple as good vs bad (at least not as you are maybe expecting with humans vs orcs) and I appreciate that.
TLDR version: If you like fantasy flicks and/or Warcraft, I don't think you will be disappointed with this film. It is a fun and exciting ride, it gives you a nice story that has some depth and brings in a lot of elements from the games for the fans.
