Review of Warcraft (2016) by D P — 13 Nov 2016
I'm not sure what critics want to see out of a fantasy movie, but this won so wonderfully for me. Watching the gorgeous visuals was a treat, yes, but I 100% need MORE movies like this to exist! Where it's knights in shining armor and honor and sacrifice, noble kings and gracious queens, mythical creatures you can summon and who will loyally be at your side in your time of need - this is the fantasy movie that brings me back to those golden years of fantasy novel reading that I cherish so dearly.
Well done, Blizzard! I dearly hope we get to see more. Someday, when critics don't have to compare every fantasy to the genius that was Tokien, maybe they'll sit and watch a fantasy movie with the eyes of a fantasy-lover.
My 15yo and 12yo were completely enthralled, and maybe that seems silly to mention, but watching them become completely transported into another realm was the stuff of parental bliss. I have Narnia and nothing else ever because the Hobbit et al are too dark and there are no real other sword and sorcery movies with this caliber storytelling? We need more movies like this! Carefully thought-out stories with subtle nuances (the people in cages being sucked of life, but we only really see their arm dangling, and then on closer inspection their faces are along the edges of the screen - which I didn't catch until I re-watched!) - so many things.
Critics, I don't know what to say to y'alls. Not every movie is meant for every audience. If this isn't your genre, why rob the rest of us of such a beautifully done movie? If there ever is a sequel to this exceptional, fun, solidly-told movie I hope it's as well thought-out as this one, and I hope it doesn't sell-out or make sacrifices just to be a sequel.
I was 100% pleased with the first movie and hope to see more!! Just, "more" that's equal-or-even-better! <3 <3 <3.
