Spielberg's rendering of a sci fi nightmare is simply stunning. His mastery of visual effects and composition is amazing. Sure the acting (except for a fine performance by Dakota Fanning) is lame.
But don't see it for character development; see it to watch our world being destroyed by big things... and rescued by little things. A visual treat.
