Review of War Machine (2017) by Tony1984 — 20 Dec 2020
In general, anti-war movies are greatly appreciated regardless of quality. The unwinnable wars in the Middle East deserve to be pilloried hard and often. The war in Afghanistan is shameful. America's politicians are a disgrace.
But this movie doesn't do the job, mocking the military, rather the political leadership, who are the real villains. It's supposed to be satire but it comes across as buffoonery. Pitt's character is massively overexaggerated to the point of silliness. If they played it straight, they would have made a better point and still had dark comedy. Opportunity missed.
