Review of War, Inc. (2008) by Antti M — 13 Nov 2008
Before I could review this film I actually found that I "needed" to first read every one elses just so that I could get a sense of what this film was trying to be. And it's a good thing I did, because now I know that I am not the only one that was confounded and confused by this film. As one person puts it, it seems like there should be a good movie in here somewhere... that is if you dont' find yourself turning it off after the first 20 minutes or so.
I count myself in the camp that turned this film off, which is very rare for me. And I didn't turn it off because I was offended or grossed out or even bored. I turned it off mostly because it was causing me to go crazy trying to piece together the jumbled satire on the war in the middle east. Everything here is just plain strange, and if you can figure it out, cudo's to you.
What is perhaps the most difficult piece to wrap your mind around has to be Hillary Duff's role as the middle east version of the American pop star... she's crass, vulgar, sexed up and just plain erotic. Who knew Lizzie Mcguire could be so grown up. But truth be told, between Joan and John, and a very odd Aykroyd and Kingsely, there certainly was some potential with the cast. But what should have been smart and quirky comes across as confusing and unrrealized. And even though I did not make it all the way through this one (correction, I did fast forward through it just so I could see from the credits that it was indeed Hillary Duff), I still am going to take the liberty of rating this fillm a whole one star.
