Review of War, Inc. (2008) by George P — 12 Feb 2010
An interesting and clever concept, very badly written, directed and performed. Very lame and unfunny.
You would have expected more from an all-star cast which includes John Cusack, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei and Joan Cusack. But actors are limited by their script and director, and here they are very constrained. (And no, I am not going to mention Hillary Duff - I was mentioning the actors that would give the film some credibility. Her appearance in the credits is the first indication that this is a pile of crap).
It seems that the writers (which include John Cusack) and casting directors were trying to recreate Grosse Point Blank in a different setting. John Cusack is the killer-for-hire, Joan Cusack his faithful assistant. Dan Aykroyd was there too. All that was needed was Minnie Driver to play the love interest. I guess that she must have been unavailable/lost her looks/dead (where is she anyway? - haven't seen her in anything for several years), so they went with Marisa Tomei.
That is where the similarity ends though. Grosse Point Blank was original, clever and funny, this is just plain lame and stupid.
