Review of War, Inc. (2008) by Nathan L — 27 Jul 2011
War, Inc. swings for the fences in the war satire department, but narrowly misses by just that much. There's a lot of big ideas and some wicked humor on display here, but in the end the sum doesn't add up in comparison to all of the many parts trying to grab your attention throughout the film.
John Cusack, Marisa Tomei and Joan Cusack are at their usual reliable selves in the acting department here. However, Hillary Duff (!) is a surprisingly smoking hot scene-stealer in this hit-and-miss farce.
Ben Kingsley and Dan Akyroyd are underused in brief but interesting parts that should have been more pivotal to the story in order to matter as much as intended. All in all though, it's an agreeable if somewhat slightly disappointing action/comedy/wartime satire.
It's no Lord of War, but it fills the void for now.
