I've always thought Spielberg was just a tad overrated and this movie just augments that feeling. Of course, it has a standard picturesque Spielberg persona... but whoever wrote this is probably an annoyingly conservative screenwriter.
Like... I've seen musicals that were less flashy/overly dramatic than this.
