Review of War Horse (2011) by Michiel V — 31 Jul 2012
I was contemplating a long review over a couple of pages, but I'll try and do this in a more concise way instead. It was going to be a very long breakdown of multiple points where the director made mistakes, from serious continuity errors to suspension of disbelief that almost broke my heart when I remembered it was directed by Stephen Spielberg, one of my favorite directors.
I can understand that he wanted to deliver a classic styled hyper sentimental movie that would capture the heart of the entire world, but what comes off is some sort of photocopy of an old movie that wasn't very good.
The problem is that you notice its ticking every box really quickly. The modern audience grows tired of seeing something they've seen before so the problem with painting sentiment on this thickly is that the brush strokes are sloppy.
The card board ending was so sugary I may have diabetes. Not your best work Mr.Spielberg.
