Review of War Horse (2011) by Ben D — 29 Jun 2013
I think War Horse is a fantastic film if you can understand its complexity. It does not ignore the pain and suffering of soldiers, or trivialize a terrible era in our history. The horse stands for more, as it struggles to survive, and unites people who wish to protect something innocent and pure, in a world thrown into chaos.
Joey (the horse) represents the best of us. The reality and hell of war is shown through battles, gassing, and blind brutality, but we are given a symbol as well; redemption and hope for all the blood we've spilled.
