While War Horse has an undeniably beautiful set and art direction for a family friendly "epic" if you wish, it is riddled with lackluster performances and a poorly translated screenplay, causing true Spielberg fans to beg for a return to form exemplified in Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.
