Review of War Horse (2011) by Grant K — 27 Apr 2014
You may enjoy this if you are unable to detect any film making techniques, or if you are genuinely compelled by advertising to go out and buy certain products without realising what you are doing. Literally every thirty seconds we get a close up teary-eyed emotional reaction shot of every character, horses included, accompanied by a swell of sickly music.
I half expected the horses to start talking its so, I don't know, 'Disney'. Of course any half-decent film about the First World War contains some harrowing scenes but you'll only feel moved in the end if you don't notice how obvious everything is.
Assuming the story here is similar to the stage version, I could tell why that had had such a good response though.
