Review of War Horse (2011) by Bikerjames — 26 Dec 2011
There is an old movie called the Yellow Rolls Royce, where you see the various owners during the life of the car. At one point the car is used in the war to transport soldiers. This movie is basically the same plot but with a horse.
I was expecting a sappy family film based on the trailer, but instead saw a shockingly graphic war film. This film is definitely not for kids. Although the acting is good throughout, the star is the horse Joey.
The cinematography set in Devon, England is gorgeous. You will wonder how he filmed some of the scenes with the horse. When the horse falls, or gets intertwined in barbed wire it looks absolutely real, and horrifying.
As I stated, take kids at your discretion, I do not recommend it. Although this is not a great Spielberg film such as Close Encounters or E.T., it is a good one and held my attention throughout.
