Review of War Horse (2011) by Patrick K — 03 Apr 2014
Set in rural England during WWI, this Oscar-nominated movie for Best Picture is almost a 4-legged version of Saving Private Ryan-complete with Steven Spielberg directing. Make no mistake, the horse is the star in this battle and definitely pulls his weight (literally).
However, the war portion of this movie never develops as characters die too quickly and Spielberg doesn't give it the care he's done with Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan (i.e., Germans speaking English).
I give the horse a solid "A" though, he carried this movie and more. Grade: C.
